USS New York - Commissioning Day
Markers on Moleskine sketch book

This is a sketch made during the commissioning of the USS New York in NYC November 7 2009. The sketch was completed on the following day. Large, simple shapes compose the exterior of this vessel. Notable are the large octagonal shells which shield the the masts and their antenna. The large shapes make the vessel appear smaller in photographs than it does in real life. Although the purpose of this design was to shrink the ship's radar signature, it has a similar effect on it's pictorial signature.
